Enhanced Terminal v3.0 - Changes and Improvements

🎉 Major New Features

1. Command History Search (Ctrl+R / Cmd+R)

Status: ✅ Fully Implemented

What it does:

• Fuzzy search through entire command history
• Visual panel with searchable list
• Instant results as you type
• Double-click or Enter to use a command

Implementation:

• HistoryManager.swift: Manages command history with fuzzy search
• Panels.swift: HistorySearchPanel class with table view
• Keyboard shortcut: Cmd+R
• History persists between sessions (UserDefaults)
• Maximum 1000 commands stored

Technical details:

• Uses NSTableView for display
• NSTextFieldDelegate for live search
• Case-insensitive fuzzy matching
• Prevents duplicate consecutive commands

2. Multiple Tabs

Status: ✅ Fully Implemented

What it does:

• Open multiple terminal sessions in tabs
• Each tab has independent shell process
• Easy tab switching with mouse or keyboard
• Visual tab bar at top of window

Implementation:

• TerminalSession.swift: Individual terminal session management
• TabManager class: Manages multiple sessions
• MainWindowController.swift: Tab bar UI and switching logic
• Keyboard shortcuts: Cmd+T (new), Cmd+W (close)

Technical details:

• Each tab runs separate Process for zsh
• Independent inputPipe and outputPipe per tab
• Tab bar uses NSStackView with dynamic buttons
• Proper cleanup on tab close to prevent memory leaks

3. Auto-Suggestions (Fish-shell style)

Status: ✅ Fully Implemented

What it does:

• Shows command suggestions as you type
• Based on command history
• Gray text overlay showing completion
• Press Tab to accept suggestion

Implementation:

• TerminalSession.swift: Suggestion logic and display
• HistoryManager.swift: getSuggestion() method
• Settings.swift: Toggle setting
• Visual overlay using NSTextField

Technical details:

• Suggestion label positioned at cursor
• Uses NSLayoutManager for precise positioning
• Filters suggestions based on partial input
• Theme-aware suggestion color (semi-transparent)

4. Split Panes

Status: ⚠️ Planned (UI framework ready, not yet implemented)

What's ready:

• Menu items created
• Keyboard shortcuts defined (Cmd+D, Cmd+Shift+D)
• Placeholder methods in MainWindowController

What's needed:

• Split view container implementation
• Pane management logic
• Resize handles
• Focus management between panes

Note: The foundation is in place for future implementation.

5. Better Shell Integration

Status: ✅ Fully Implemented

Improvements:

• Fixed "fg: no job control in this shell" messages
• Cleaner prompt display
• Better environment variable handling
• Improved ANSI escape code filtering

Implementation:

• Changed shell arguments from -i to -l (login shell)
• Better environment setup in TerminalSession.swift
• Enhanced ANSI cleaning with more patterns
• Proper TERM variable set to xterm-256color
